TLE Cursive Writing for Children and Teens
The Science of Handwriting
A Note from Dr. Christina J. Eason
Did you know that writing by hand helps your brain learn? Today, many people use phones, tablets, and computers to type words. Typing is helpful, but writing by hand gives your brain a different kind of workout! When you write in cursive, you connect letters with smooth, flowing movements. Your eyes, hands, and brain work together. Different parts of your brain communicate as you think about letters, words, and ideas.
Why Is Handwriting Important?
1. It Helps Your Brain Grow!
Writing by hand helps your brain practice skills like remembering, thinking, reading, and learning new words. It is like exercise for your brain!
2. It Can Help You Feel Calm.
Have you ever noticed that drawing, coloring, or writing slowly can help you feel peaceful? The steady movements of handwriting may help your body relax and give you time to focus on your feelings.
3. It Helps You Show Who You Are.
Your handwriting is special because it’s yours. Your signature shows, “This is me!” As you practice, you can develop a handwriting style that feels comfortable and personal.
Your Handwriting Reset
As you work through these pages, remember to take your time.
You do not have to be perfect. You do not have to finish first. Every letter you practice is a chance to learn, grow, and improve.
Take a deep breath. Relax your hand. Pick up your pencil and begin.
This is not a race. It is your time to slow down, build your skills, and give your brain a little exercise.
One stroke at a time, you are growing!
